Jackson, born & educated in Texas and Alabama, was a musician, teacher, journalist, activist, & government official; this is noted as his eighth published full-length work; he died in 2016 at the age of 89. While some cataloguers refer to Exposition Press as a 'vanity press' (authors paid to have their work published), the gatekeeping of white publishers often left Black authors no other choice. The Jacobs family built two houses designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, including the first 'Usonian' house, and the more exotic 'Solar Hemicycle', and here recount their experiences including living in the houses and doing much of the work on the second house, after Wright was offended by a comment in one of the author's earlier books.
