Front-back illustrated cover. Front cover subtitle: "A stirring novel of the raw Ohio wilderness". Contains "violent detail and sustained interest". Unabridged. Traveling westward to a woman's wedding, Shawnees attacked, and captured the woman to be a slave in their village. She forms a risky escape plan with a reckless Shawnee renegade. Considered a realistic portrayal of Native American life in frontier time: savage wartime rites, brutality toward slaves. Author was critiqued favorably with historical novelist Kenneth Roberts.
