Description:
Athens, 2014. In English. Cloth, 23x25 cm, 288 pp., ill.; net weight 1.5 kg. ISBN: 978-960-6849-42-8.
Presents items of Sofianos collection covering a three-century period and including items made in Constantinople and Pergamon. Constantinople was the metropolis of Byzantine minor arts and from the eighteenth century, as a vibrant multi-ethnic city, it also interacted with the West. Pergamon had also a great tradition in silk and linen; ancient stitches and natural dyes predominate in its handiwork. All this fermentation is imprinted vividly in the Collection that belongs to an old-established Greek family of Constantinople: three centuries of history in one dowry.
