RARE: Sweden-born author "Old Jorg", emigrated as a young man to Massachusetts, then settled in New Sweden, Maine, after working varied other jobs. His memoir is anecdotal, historic, enterprising, and entertaining; and includes his early marriage and parenting life. Since the 1937 publication of his memoir with the Maine Fish and Game Department, this volume has been read and re-read and passed around a lot. Its condition bears witness. Its 17 B&W photo plates, and additional 7 charts at back, the publishers also have supplemented the author's stories with "A Record of Conservation in the State of Maine. Graphs included for the years 1830-1936 were made by Archer L Grover, Deputy Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Game. A Conservation Background chapter introduces the charts: Moose Law; Census--Deer, Moose, Beaver; Annual Catch by Species; Total Pelts by Year; Bounties; Deer Counts by County.
