About This Item
Springfield, Illinois: Phillip H. Wagner, 1962. First Edition Stated . Trade Paperback. Very Good. 8 1/2" X 11. Ostendorf, Lloyd. 160 Pages. No defects noted to this pictorial life of Abraham Lincoln. Interior text and illustration pages are flawless. Using photographs and his own drawings the author brings to life all the well-known episodes, and some less well- known, that occurred during the fifty-six years of Lincoln's life. The day he fell into Knob Creek and nearly drowned, his experience taking cargo down the Mississippi to New Orleans on a flat-boat, and the not-so-well-known plot to assassinate him as he and his party made their way to Washington for the First inauguration in 1961. With the most careful attention to detail, Lloyd Ostendorf recreates these and 150 other events. The brief text along with the illustrations tell the facts about each of the pictures. The authentic photographs, together with the action drawings, provide the young reader with a fascinating panorama in the life history of one of our greatest Americans. Ostendorf is a gifted artist and photographer who studied Lincoln for over 50 years. The list of historical societies to which he belongs goes on and on, as does the list of publications to which he has contributed. Since his early teens, he has been fascinated by Lincoln and he spent years collecting pictures of Lincoln and drawing his likeness for fun. There are more than 225 drawings and photographs picturing the life story of Lincoln in a time-line fashion year by year. In addition there is a map on the back cover called The Lincoln Heritage trail depicting 30 points of interest in the three states Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky. There is a two page essay regarding the similarities of Benito Juarez and Lincoln. The author includes a photographic list of the 38 Hispanic Congressional Medal of Honor recipients as of 1968 along with a one-page story of the American GI Forum. .
