Full leather with five raised bands on the spine with a red author and title slip in the second compartment. 8vo. Front blank endpaper, half title, xxi, blank, "Contents," blank, folding map, 382 pp., two blank rear endpapers. The half title is rare. Initials of previous owner on title page, dated in year of publication. Names of another previous owner, Owen M. Wynne, inside front cover and on title page. Small red stamp on title page. Most recently purchased from the library of notable book collector Sydney Ross. First Edition, First State with the points indicated by Pottle. Folding map has a one-inch edge tear. Expertly rebacked, internally nice, Very Good Plus. In fine and very attractive clamshell box. Boswell's first important publication, which gained him considerable reputation. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1785.
