Xvi, 343 pp. Photogravure frontispiece portrait of John Weston Brooke, 2 folding maps at rear, plus many photograph plates. First edition/first printing. Bound in original green cloth, with wraparound illustration in blue, black and brown, gilt-lettered spine, top edge gilt. Previous owner's name present to the reverse of the front board, bookplate present, bookstore stamp present to rear endpaper along with another name present. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards clean with no wear present. Account of the two journeys into Tibet by Lieutenant John Weston Brooke, F. R. G. S. , 1906-7 and 1907-8, the second ending when he was cruelly murdered in the Independent Lolo Land. Based on Brooke's diary and photographs, and the relation of C. H. Meares, who accompanied Brooke on his second trip. E-39; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 343 pages .
