Boston: Printed for the Author by The Collins Press, 1894. Tall 8vo. x, [11]-308 pp. Frontisp., numerous text illustrations. Plum-coloured publisher’s cloth, gilt lettering on front cover & spine (very slight sunning to spine, very slight wear to corners), NF copy. First edition of this excellent memoir by Williams (b. 1824) recounting his experiences aboard whaling ships in the South Pacific, stopovers in Fiji, the gold rush in Australia, joining the 1849 California Gold Rush, his return to Australia, the Australian Gold Camps, and then back to the gold camps near Carson, and a new gold strike in British Columbia.
