Originally published in 1935 by Heinemann. Grey cloth-covered boards with same color topstain. Foreword for this edition by Forester. Droll inscription by Forester on the half-title page to actress/inventor Hedy Lamaar. "To Hedy Lamarr with love, even though she doesn't remember me, from C.S. Forester." Additionally the small ownership stamp of Canadian actor/author Alexander Knox is on the title page. Shelfwear on board edges, mostly at corners, beginning page toning; dustjacket with chipped corners, dampstain on front flap fold, minor soiling and toning. Good condition in a Good dustjacket with an archival cover. In a long career that included such films as "The Sea Wolf," "The Vikings," "The Longest Day," "Khartoum," "You Only Live Twice," "Gorky Park," Knox was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of President Woodrow Wilson in Zanuck's "Wilson." He was the author of six adventure novels. Basis for John Huston's 1951 film with Humphrey Bogart, Katharine Hepburn and Robert Morley with screen adaptation by James Agee.. Inscribed by Author. Hays is most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA), which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire, inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts, and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies, Hays installed a more formal production code, called the Hays Code( later simply "The Code"), which became the virtual law of Hollywood until the 1960s.
