G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1899. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Signed. Tipped in is an autographed letter, dated 1898, to Mr. Clemens, SIGNED by Anna Katharine Rolhfs (her married name) declining an offer to sell latest work for the sum of $500. Bound in 3/4 brown Morocco over marbled boards, 5 raised bands on lighter toned spine, spine compartments stamped in gilt, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers. The volume is bumped on the corners with the bottom corners exposed. The upper edges are dampstained (visable on the endpapers and fore-edges) and there is a small inventory label on the rear pastedown. All in all, it is still an attractive copy which presents beautifully.

MP3 Audio CD. Agatha Webb BOOK I THE PURPLE ORCHID I A CRY ON THE HILL The dance was over. From the great house on the hill the guests had all departed and only the musicians remained. As they filed out through the ample doorway, on their way home, the first faint streak of early dawn became visible in the east. One of them, a lank, plain-featured young man of ungainly aspect but penetrating eye, called the attention of the others to it. "Look!" said he; "there is the daylight! This has been a gay night for Sutherlandtown." "Too gay," muttered another, starting aside as the slight figure of a young man coming from the house behind them rushed hastily by. "Why, who's that?" As they one and all had recognised the person thus alluded to, no one answered till he had dashed out of the gate and disappeared in the woods on the other side of the road. Then they all spoke at once. "It's Mr. Frederick!" "He seems in a desperate hurry."… Read More

MP3 Audio CD. The works of Anna Katharine Green have literally shaped the modern detective novel, giving it the familiar form we know today, while also providing it with its own characteristic American charm. Aside from well-known novels such as The Step on the Stair, A Strange Disappearance or The Leavenworth Case, Agatha Webb is one of Ms. Green?s most impressive and well-written publications.A wealthy woman who was quite well-regarded by the people from the community she lived in is suddenly killed due to a stab wound inflicted by a dagger. One of her servants also dies shortly thereafter because of a heart attack ? likely from the shock of discovering the murder. Not everything is as it seems, however, as a thrilling and twisty plot unfolds, leading to a story that will impress you through its intricacies.Even though the characters in Agatha Webb knew each other quite well, we are slowly exposed to more and more bewildering developments that shed light on their true intentions and hidden… Read More
