Raleig: Printed at the Institution for the Deaf & Dumb & the Blind, 1861. 296pp. Original printed wrappers. Front wrapper partially detached, loss of paper on spine (stitched). Slight browning. Else a very good copy. In a red folding cloth box, leather label. An important work of southern agriculture, by the man sometimes called "the father of modern scientific agronomy." Ruffin is best remembered today for his fervent states' rights beliefs and his secessionist rhetoric. He was given the honor of firing the first gun on Fort Sumter in 1861.
