Maroon cloth with blind-stamped 'CASSON' on fore edge of front board and gilt lettering on spine. In original publisher's corrugated cardboard box (white with maroon lettering). Profusely illustrated with colour and monotone reproduction, b&w photographs. "A.J. Casson is one of the most beloved of all Canadian artists. His works are sought after probably more than those of any other living native painter. As a member of the Group of Seven and in the many years since its dissolution, he has created a brilliant series of canvases celebrating our landscape in all its many moods and seasons. His works are treasured in every national public gallery collection, and in hundred of private collections. It is to bring together a magnificent cross-section from these collections that this volume has been designed. It includes representative major canvases, oil sketches and watercolours. The artist himself, has overseen the quality of every plate in this publication." A very heavy volume. which will require extra postage for destinations outside of Canada and the United States. Book has a slight lean, one page with three small very light soiling marks (not effecting any text), light toning to edges of text block. Dust jacket has a crease along the bottom front edge, several tiny or small edge tears and some light wrinkling - mostly at bottom edge, slight toning at edges. Full-page colour plates of Casson's work beginning in 1898 up to 1980. Ten chapters pages with gilt titles on heavy blue card stock; list of exhibition and chronology at rear. Volume has light fading to boards which are otherwise fine; binding fine. Light toning outside of text block and plates, otherwise fine without markings, tears or folds. Unclipped dustjacket has a few closed tears, edge ruffling and light age toning.Alfred Joseph Casson, OC (1898 – 1992) was the youngest member of the Canadian Group of Seven. He is best known for his depictions of landscapes, forests and farms in the medium of watercolors.
