Here is the Famous Old Tale of that Strange & Wonderful Lamp which brought the Boy Aladdin great Riches, a marvelous Palace built all in one night and a beautiful Princess for a Wife. By rubbing this Magical lamp, from a poor lad in Rags he became the rich merchant Aladdin. Elizabeth Mackinstry adds new luster to this oldest of fairy tales with her pictures in gorgeous colors and carefully patterned black-and-white. The jewels in the secret cave glow with Oriental richness; jovial genii, grinning broadly, build Aladdin's palace in a sapphire night, while the Fire-Bird and the Roc hover graciously on the outskirts, and in the background the Wicked Magician scowls in rage or leers in horrid triumph.

New York: Atheneum. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Pages: xii, [4], 3-175, [1 - biography note]. Better than very good with a bright 1960's unclipped dust jacket; both with light edge wear. What a gem! A primary source for the mid-century food culture, AND an outstanding cookbook. Win-Win!. Within these informally written pages are both recipes and stories from one of the leading chefs of the era. Some of the recipes found within these narrations are Citris Pie, Suet Pudding, Potato filling for turkey; Spoonbread and Mutton Broth as made in Scotland. Because of the writing style, the best place to find the actual recipes may be in the index. Kirkus Review offers this: "Restaurateur (New York's former Ambassador-Sheraton East) Brockway provides a talking-reading cookbook with insets of recipes remembered. They range from a childhood in the country where an incomparable Hetty cooked by ear, piecrust, frosting, coffee, mincemeat, on to… Read More
