About This Item
Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1961. First edition. Softcover. g. Quarto. IX, [5], 486, [2]pp. Original printed wrappers over green cloth with silver lettering on spine. This remarkable work is a fundamental and revealing study in the relation of ideology to political and social alienation. It argues that, under the "closed society" of the Russian old regime, libertarian and democratic aspirations could find expression only as ideology, and that this abstract origin in turn made Russian opposition politics peculiarly extremist and utopian. Spine and edges of wrappers age-toned. Wraps in overall good, binding and interior in very good condition.
