About the author

The Author: Nicolaas A. Rupke is professor of the history of science and director of the Institute for the History of Science at Gttingen University. With a doctorate from Princeton University, he has held research positions at, among other places, Oxford University and the Institute of Advanced Studies at the Australian National University. His previous studies of scientific biography include Richard Owen. He is a fellow of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Gttingen Academy of Sciences.
