About This Item

Washington DC: German Historical Institute and Cambridge University Press, 2003. First Edition [stated], presumed first printing. Trade paperback. Very good. xii, 371, [1] pages. Footnotes. Illustrations. Index. Preface by Detlef Junker. Black mark on bottom edge. Lloyd C. Gardner (born 1934) is an American historian, a member of the "Wisconsin School" of diplomatic history along with Walter LaFeber and Thomas J. McCormick. He was educated at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Gardner was the Charles and Mary Beard Professor of History at Rutgers University, where taught since 1963. A specialist in 20th century History of U.S. foreign policy, Gardner has held several national fellowships, including two Fulbright Professorships in England and Finland, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is author or editor of 16 books on American foreign policy. Wilfried Mausbach has been a research fellow at the German Historical Institute in Washington, D.C., and has held assistant professorships in history at both the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at the Free University Berlin and Heidelberg University. Presenting new perspectives on the Vietnam War, its global repercussions, and its role in modern history, this volume reveals "America's War" as an international event that reverberated worldwide. The essays address political, military, and diplomatic issues and the cultural and intellectual consequences of "Vietnam." They compare the Vietnam War to other major conflicts in world history. "America's War" is depicted as a global event whose origins and characteristics deserve an interdisciplinary treatment. Among the contributors are: Michael Adas, Sabine Behrenbeck, Peter Edwards, Fabian Hilfrich, Christopher Jeperson, Jeffry Kimball, Arne Kislenko, Fredrik Logevall, Leopolda Nuti, John Prados, Eva-Maria Stolberg, Barbara Tishler, Gunder Wernicke, and Hubert Zimmerman.
