The American Language: A Preliminary Inquiry into the Development of English in the United States by Mencken, H. L - 1919

NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1919. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. #456 of 1500 of the first edition. Very good with no dust jacket. Dark blue boards have some areas that are rubbed or otherwise a lighter blue - could possibly be a very light dampstain. No evidence of dampstaining on the interior of the book. Spine lettering (in light blue) is slightly rubbed, but still clear and legible. Two bookplates and the corner of a small label are on the front pastedown. Laid in is a six page article about Mencken by Carl Van Doren taken from The Century Magazine (undated, but probably the 1920's). Hinges are tight, topstain is still uniformly dark blue, tight and clean on the interior.
