Garden City, NY: Doubleday, Page, 1927. First Edition. 8vo, pp. 344. Includes appendices and index. Illustrated with photographs. Owner's name on pastedown. VG. Thomas was born in Essen, Germany, showed talent for the violin very early and became a child prodigy. The family emigrated to America while Thomas was stil a boy; and he helped to support it by playing wherever he could, in the theater and in bars. Eventually he became a conductor, and was, to a great extent, responsible for the growth of the symphony orchestra in the U.S.
