Co-authored by one of the 3 defendants, this account is of a crime in rural Montgomery County, MD, 1961, for which 3 young black males were accused, tried, convicted, and sentenced to death in the rape of a white girl, 16. Testimony against them by the accuser was contradictory, exonerating evidence was held by the prosecutor, and appeals went to the U.S. Supreme Court which rendered a controversial split decision, leading to their freedom.
