About This Item
Port Washington, NY: Ashley Books, Inc., [1978].. [1978].. Very good. - Octavo, blue cloth titled in gilt on the spine in pictorial dust wrapper. The dust jacket is but slightly soiled & creased. 377 pages. Very good. <p>First edition. A novel by Daniel Curzon, "author of the classic gay novel, Something You Do In The Dark". "Jock Jones makes no secret of his homosexuality when he is hired as a creative writing instructor at Fresno State University. Jock sets out to destroy the taboos and even begins a gay studies class. He wants to challenge the mania that decrees that one must be heterosexual or perish. He wants to climb above the sham of professional bible thumpers like Anita Bryant, who uses the prestige of Florida juice to campaign against homosexuals (and change legislation). Jock is not a bad guy but he has to be destroyed because he has come out of the closet and this endangers others. In a world where orange juice Queens and State Senators (in real life, Senator Briggs of California reintroduced his bill to ban gay teachers) Jock doesn't fare too well." -- From the dw blurb.
