Doubleday, 1958. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. GOOD/Very Good. Signed by the Author. Karl Donfried's copy with his Harvard bookplate to half-title. Tips lightly shelf worn, some neat pencil and colored pencil annotations, very crisp otherwise. DJ extremities rubbed, spine just a bit faded, clean and bright otherwise, wrapped in mylar. The first and for many years authoritative scholarly overview of the Dead Sea Scrolls. The dean of American Ancient Near East studies, Cross was one of the lead scholars of the international research team first working with the newly discovered manuscripts. Donfried was Cross's student at Harvard Divinity School when the book was released and went on to become a notable Biblical scholar in his own right.
