Red cloth, lettered in silver to spine, and dustjacket. 74pp of illustrated text, followed by 183 plates of Muybridge's sequential b&w photos of various animals in motion, including people riding horses. Large quarto. This is a Very Good ex-library copy (has small library stamp of Westwood College of Technology, California to title page, top closed page edges, and at back endpaper with card pocket and bar code; old label residues to spine of jacket). Chicago/Yosemite: Chicago Albumen Works/Yosemite Natural History Association., 1977. First edition. One of about 50 sets, signed by the publisher and the facilitator. Copy #22. Originally 300 sets were planned but the production costs were so horrendous that this publication nearly put Chicago Albumen Works out of business and they called it quits at 50 sets. Ten gold-toned mammoth albumen prints made from Muybridge's negatives: 29 1/2 x 24 1/2 inches. Accompanying booklet with two essays. Housed in the original canvas clamshell case with morocco gilt lettering label to front. Trifling bit of wear to the box but overall an excellent copy.
