London: J. Sewell, R. Faulder, J. Simco, [et al.], 1800. First Edition. Very good in early nineteenth century red straight-grained morocco framed in gilt and with blindstamped foliage borders, raised bands, gilt scrollwork and lettering in compartments, all edges gilt, dentelle turn ins, some wear and bumping to edges and scuffs to leather, some spotting and foxing near margins.. First Edition of Smith's, who served as Keeper of Drawings at the British Museum, collection of plates depicting architectural views and monuments in London. Despite the book's title, Smith takes a rather broad view of "antiquity," even including an engraving of Hogarth's tomb, who died only decades prior to publication of the book.
