Description

London / New York / Toronto: John Lane The Bodley Head /John Lane Company / S.B. Gundy, 1915. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. First edition, "third Canadian issue," first binding variant, and first Canadian edition with the S.B. Gundy imprint. Spine is very lightly faded, top edge is a bit dust soiled, a few pages are lightly foxed, else a very good copy in unrecorded good only dust jacket (the jacket "not seen" by the bibliographer is similar to the only known dust jacket on an English edition (see Spadoni A16b note) with "The Bodley Head" imprint at base of spine present, but with no printed price on the spine (the English jacket has the price on the spine), the front panel has the title printed in blue, and the author's name is printed in pale green (instead of blue on the English jacket), the front and rear flaps are unprinted (the only known English jacket lacked the flaps). The pictorial jacket is soiled, with a few small chips at tips of spine with loss to publisher's printed name at base of spine, a good copy of a rare jacket, the bibliographer was unable to locate any jacket for the Gundy imprint.
