Pp. viii+294(last blank); blue cloth, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, slightly soiled and rubbed; dust wrapper, worn and lightly soiled, the edges chipped and torn, with a closed tear from top edge into front panel repaired with stamp hinges on reverse; some scattered foxing; Geoffrey Bles, 1936. Sixteenth edition. *Originally published in 1933. Inscribed and signed by the author (dated 21/12/39) on the half-title page. Scottish doctor Halliday Sutherland (1882endash 1960) was a pupil and protege of Sir Robert Philip, pioneer in the treatment and control of tuberculosis. In 1911, Sutherland founded a tuberculosis clinic and produced Britain's first public health education film, The Story of John M'Neil, a silent movie which showed how tuberculosis was spread and how it was treated. Later he became President of the Tuberculosis Society of Great Britain.
