About This Item
London: Country Life Limited, (1944).. First edition. Large 8vo. Publisher's cloth, gilt lettered to the spine, lettered and decorated to the upper board, dust jacket, price clipped. Frontispiece, illustration of a bust of the author which is also replicated on the upper cover of the dust jacket plus 182 black and white illustrations. Uncommon with the dust jacket, which is a little tanned on the spine and with slight loss at the head, else a very good copy. A wonderful record of the architect's work published two years before his death. Baker is best known for his designs for colonial buildings in South Africa, though he also closely collaborated with Edwin Lutyens in his work in New Delhi, notably the Secretariat Building and Parliament House.
