About This Item
Cambridge, England: Heffer and Sons. VG/Good only DJ. 1939. 1st. hardcover. 8vo . 125pp . Bookplate of Raymond Priestley (and more!), some tears, foxing to end papers. Additional cover and spine pasted in frontmatter. The author was on the British Graham Land Expedition, but that's not what makes this special. Bookplate is Raymond Priestley's, who was the geologust on Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition, and Scott's fatal Terra Nova Expedition. Previous owner's or bookseller's note in pencil on half-title: ..."explorer Priestley's notes for his review inserted. His Bookplate inside front cover." 3 1/2 pages of Priestley's notes on 5" x 8" lined note paper, starting with his prose review, later mostly an outline of topics to cover. Also: Almost 3 pages of single space typed notes on 3 hole punched, 4" x 6" sheets. Book itself isn't anything out of the ordinary in terms of condition or content, but the autographed Priestley notes and bookplate certainly are. .
