Description:
Toronto: Macmillan, 1974. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Full brown cloth. 154 pp. Full-page B&W illustrations. Some very slight soiling to dust jacket, fine overall. In October 1942 the 85-ton RCMP vessel St. Roch sailed into Halifax harbour to become the first ship to navigate the fabled Northwest Passage fro west to east. The tiny wooden vessel had set out from Vancouver in June 1940 on the voyage, which was to have taken only 90 days. Dogged by misfortune, pummelled by storms, hemmed in and battered by the the menacing Arctic ice, it was more than two years before the crew reached Halifax. Sgt. Farrar tells an exciting and inspiring story of the rugged persistence and cheerful endurance of his skipper and companions.
