[9.75x6.5in]; xii, 334 pp., i-xviii [index], 31 illustrations and images, seven maps in text and one folding map at rear; Light blue cloth covers with gilt lettering on spine, all edges trimmed; Blue-gray dust jacket with white and black lettering on spine and front, illustration of ice bound ships in Arctic waters on front, advertisements on back cover; Some shelf wear to covers, edges and corners, spine and all edges faded, corners bummped, rear hinge loose, map closed tear at hinge; Some shelf wear to dust jacket with small chips and several closed tears along edges and corners, price clipped [Arctic Biblio 11527, US Edition]. Jeannette Mirsky (1903-1987), an author and historian, first published this work as To The North! in 1934, by Viking press. From the dust jacket, that edition was withdrawn shortly after publication because of a libel-action threat by the late Dr. Fredrick A. Cook. Mirsky had written about Cook's reaching the North Pole as "...exciting and well-written, but ...mainly fiction...". This book has been revised and enlarged with new material from the Russian explorations in the late 1930's [from the Arctic Bibliography].
