About This Item

Nicosia: The Armenian Representative's Office, 2016. Brand new. Bilingual (Greek-English) edition. Hard cover, 24 cm, 372 pp., ill.; net weight 1100 gr. ISBN: 9789963978618.

One hundred years have passed since the Armenian Genocide. Between 1915 and 1923 more than one and a half million Armenians were either systematically massacred, deported or forcefully islamised by the Ottomans. Pursuing the nationalist vision of a "Turkey for the Turks" and aspiring to a Panturanic Empire encompassing all Turkic peoples from the Balkans to Siberia, the Young Turks took advantage of WW I and the subsequent instability in the Middle East to force the Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians out of their ancient homelands, parts of present-day Turkey. The 100th Anniversary Commemoration Committee of Cyprus called for this publication as part of a general initiative across the Armenian diaspora, to collect and document news items contemporary to the Armenian Genocide. The articles about the Hamidian massacres (1894-96), the Adana massacre (1909) and 1914, the year before the Genocide, were included in order to make the publication more comprehensive.
