About This Item

Oxford: Phaidon & Christie's, 1987. Cloth. Fine/Very Good Indeed. 11" by 9". Not Stated. A beautiful collection and history of the art nouveau postcard, extensively illustrated. A beautiful collection of Art Nouveau postcards, considering their design, history and aesthetic appeal across Europe and America. This is the first English edition of this book. Art Nouveau peaked between 1890 and 1914 in correspondence to the emergence of the postcard as a new art form. This book examines the evolution of this art form and its importance. Profusely illustrated with 227 full colour pages, with 665 illustrations to the rear and further illustrations throughout the text. In the original clipped dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Light fading to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright clean pages. In the original clipped dustwrapper. Some marks to the spine and fading to the extremities. Fine
