Dunedin NZ: New Zealand Institute. 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good. 32 x 26 cm Five parts bound into one volume.1896 - 1901 , 438 pages + (v) index + (ii) . Illustrated with 65 photographic plates plate xxi bound out of sequence at end of part 2, although plates are numbered to 65 there is no plate xxii and it is not called for in the plate list, 7 pages of Rafter Patterns printed in red and black, also numerous photographic and line-drawn illustrations within the text. Publishers 3 paper notes relating to the publication present ( 2 loose 1 bound in) .The contents clean and tight with no inscriptions foxing or marks. Publishers dark red cloth gilt patterned design and title to upper board, spine with gilt title and pattern vignettes. Small chip to cloth at head of spine and light rubbing to corners.The binding is clean and tight with no splits or marking. A very good + copy seldom found in this condition. Published in five yearly parts between 1896 and 1901, . Part 1 covers Maori art and workmanship, Part 2 describes their dwellings, Part 3 their weapons, Part 4 their dress and decoration and Part 5 their social life.
