Kodansha International, 1968. 2d . Cloth. Fine/Fine. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Bin, Takahashi. Two volumes, Translated and Adapted by John Rosenfield, Volume 1, and Glenn T. Wald, Volume 2. Very large books, gray cloth top edges with embossed red Japanese lettering, most of sides black cloth, a very bright gilt ornate dancer and musicial illustrated on Volume 1 front, very bright gilt flowery designs on Volume 2 front, inside covers and adjacent end papers heavier stock paper with speckled Pollock--look.Volume 1 has 236 heavy glossy stiff pages with extensive notes and index, a map in final pages, profusely illustrated through both volumes, many color photographs tipped-in. Volume 1 is entitled Ancient and Mediieval, Volume 2 Medieval to Modern. DJ glossy on heavy paper, with a close-up color photograph of multi-headed and armed goddess statue, background in shades of blue in gold frame on front, spine and back with a color photograph of mansion and gardens on back with white background. Dj has very tiny surface wear spot at bottom front middle edge, tiny and very tiny tear with crease at spine top edge, creased with very tiny nick at spine bottom edge, a light crease and microtear at top back tip. Volume 2 has similar photographs and color tipped in throughout. a second printing 1970, Inside covers and adjacent end paper on heavier stock is map of village plots and streams, on final page a map of Japan with place names from texts. DJ glossy with color photograph of of happy demon on front, spine and back right, white background at top front, spine top and back borders, a color photo on back of beautiful temple. DJ and book, both As New.
