About This Item

Hobart: Royal Society of Tasmania, 1991. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. Hobart, Royal Society of Tasmania, 1991. Small quarto; colour pictorial card covers; an excellent copy. 'The volume is published in appreciation of the work of Dr. W.M. Curtis AM and to mark her 85th year. 'Richea curtisiae Gray', one of many species named in her honour, is featured on the cover' (from the loosely inserted - slightly creased - colour pictorial prospectus). Winifred Mary Curtis (1905-2005) was an Australian botanist, author and a pioneer researcher in plant embryology and cytology with a prominent role in the University of Tasmania Botany Department; 'The Winifred Curtis Laboratories (the teaching laboratory complex in the Department of Plant Science) is named in her honor'. (Department of Communities, Tasmania website).
