About This Item
Audley Square, Wednesday 28 May. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition with the original envelope (flap bearing the initials E.A.R.) I have some people to show them to if possible; but walking is quite out of the question! Elizabeth Anne Rawdon (1793-1874), later Elizabeth, Lady William Russell. A beautiful and energetic cosmopolitan who had enjoyed a broad European education, she was praised by Lord Byron in Beppo as "[one] whose bloom could, after dancing, dare the dawn". However, her outspoken Tory sympathies won her few friends among her husband's Liberal circle. Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux, described her asthat accursed woman.
