Full-page ornamental title chromolithographed and richly heightened in gilt with added watercolours and one half-page chromolithogr. unwân richly heightened in gilt, 88 pages printed in Turkish Neschi type, each chapter heading printed in red, all pages framed by triple gilt rules. Last page with gilt ornamental tail-piece. Publisher's green morocco adorned with gilt Islamic ornamentation, front cover with overlapping flap. All edges gilt. Doublure, watered pink silk rectangle bordered by a green morocco frame with a repeated pattern of gilt stamps. Fly-leaves covered with watered pink silk. Small-4to (235 x 155 mm).


Durstmüller. 500 Jahre Druck in Oesterreich I, 273 ; Mayer. Wiens Buchdrucker-Geschichte II, 167. First edition and a large paper copy printed on special paper of this significant collection of intergovernmental treaties on shipping and trade with the full text of 19 trade treaties, in Ottoman Turkish throughout, between the Austrian and the Ottoman Empire between 1699 and 1844. A master piece of Oriental printing by the Royal Imperial State Printing Office headed by Auer von Welsbach, the type was designed by Albert Kraft and cut in the type-foundry of the Royal Imperial State Printing Office, the printing with this Neschi type was highly acclaimed by the leading contemporary orientalists of Vienna among them Hammer-Purgstall, von Hammer and von Huszar. The paper, which was specially produced for this book, is a highly finished and slightly glossy kind of paper resembling vellum. A fine copy in a most elegantly adorned publisher's green morocco binding.
