In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.Published as part of The Children's Illustrated Classics collection, bound in Sundour cloth with special designs for binding, endpapers and jackets by Alexander H. Williamson. Written by Scottish author and minister George MacDonald, known for his modern fantasy literature. This much loved children's classic tells the story of Diamond, the cab-horse and Diamond, the little boy, who was whisked away to the back of the north wind. This work was MacDonald's best known children's book, and drew on his own experiences being brought up in west Aberdeenshire. Illustrated with seven colour plates and a frontispiece, as well as numerous vignettes, by Ernest Howard Shepard, known for his illustrations in the Winnie-the-Pooh books. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very smart, with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. A touch of fading to the extremities. Dust wrapper is smart, with light edge wear and one of two chips to the head of the spine and to the extremities. Light sunning to the wrap, moreso to the spine, and the occasional mark. A few spots to the rear of the wrap. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed

Synopsis

At the Back of the North Wind is a children's book by George MacDonald. It was serialized in the children's magazine Good Words for the Young beginning in 1868 and was published in book form in 1871. It is a fantasy centered around a boy named Diamond and his adventures with the North Wind. Diamond travels together with the mysterious Lady North Wind through the nights.
