Description

London: Arthur Barker, 1933. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good /No Jacket. Inscribed by author. Inscribed: "Humphrey Milford / from Charles Williams."  Following that are five lines in Latin and the reference p.242.  Milford, from 1913 to 1945 was publisher to the University of Oxford and head of operations at Oxford University Press London.  Thus he was Charles Williams' supervisor.  Additionally he was uncle of Anne Ridler.  Oxford University Press created an imprint (brand) called Humphrey Milford.  The Humphrey Milford imprint printed several C. S. Lewis books including the 1938 edition of The Allegory of Love; Rehabilitations and Other Essays, 1939; The Personal Essay: A Controversy, 1939; A Preface to Paradise Lost, 1942; and The Abolition of Man, 1943.
