1874. Steel-engraving. 120mm by 185mm (image) 210mm by 265mm (sheet). From 'Australia' by Edwin Carton Booth. Thomas Baines joined Augustus Gregory as official artist and storekeeper, in the expedition across northern Australia between 1855-1857 sponsored by the Royal Geographical Society to evaluate the northern area of Australia for suitability as a colonial settlement. The Baines River was named after him.CONDITION : Faint foxing to the top of the sheet.
