A limited edition, large paper edition. Number 140 out of 1250 copies for England and 200 copies for America.Illustrated by Hugh Thompson with an illustrated title pages, a frontispiece, vignettes and 25 plates. Hugh Thompson is best known for his illustrations of works by authors such as Jane Austen, Charles Dickens and J. M. Barrie.Rebound in brown cloth with endpapers renewed. Original half title retained. This work features eighteenth century verses from poet and essayist Austin Dobson. Of those included, the most famous and longest ballad is the titled 'The Ballad of Beau Brocade,' dealing with the exploits of dandy highwayman Beau Brocade, later protagonist of Baroness Orczy's novel 'Beau Brocade' (1907) as well as a 1916 silent film adaptation under the same title. In a modern brown cloth. End papers renewed. Original half title retained. Externally lovely. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with only the odd spot, minor mark and tidemarks to the tail of pages 41 to 44. The odd unopened page. Near Fine
