About This Item

Philadelphia & New York: J. B. Lippincott Company. Very Good+ with no dust jacket. 1963. First Edition. Hardcover. In the original black boards with bright gilt & silver-gilt titling to the spine and bright silver lettering to the front board. The base colour to the spine, however, has faded very slightly and is more a very dark grey than black, but all lettering is clear and bright. No dustjacket BUT the former owner has made his own d/j by using a clear plastic cover then photocopying, in b/w, the title, author and the publisher and making a 'collage' of the copies appropriately inside the clear plastic cover to the spine and the front cover, thus protecting the book and simulating a d/j. All hinges secure and tight. The top edge is green. NO Inscriptions or Marks and the book block is Fine. Plain Green Endpapers. (viii ) + 215 pp. Illustrated with 2 b/w Maps (1 doublefold) drawn by B. C. Mossman. Overall a Very Clean, Tight copy of a Scarcish ORIGINAL edition, sadly without the dustjacket. "This book covers the lengthy, wet, cold and miserable forest battle in the Aachen Region called 'Huertgen Forest' from Mid-Sept1944 to Mid Dec 1944. The Author was the Offical Army historian at the time of the battle. 'Passchendaele with Tree bursts' Ernest Hemingway called it....! ." This book is part of the publisher's 'Great Battles in History' series, edited by Hanson W. Baldwin. ; Great Battles of History; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
