New York: Harper & Row, 1988. First Edition. Cloth Spine. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bound in off-white cloth with brown paper to boards; brown lettering to spine & publisher's insignia blindstamped to lower right front board. Signed on the title page. Spine cocked, bottom corners of boards lightly bumped and some very light dust soil to bottom. Dust-jacket with some light wear to one corner and at one point on bottom edge, and light bump to head and heel of spine.
Synopsis
The Bean Trees , first published in 1988, is the first book written by Barbara Kingsolver and was followed by a sequel, Pigs in Heaven . Taylor Greer hightails it out of Kentucky as soon as she gets a car, refusing to be just another small-town girl. She soon finds herself in Oklahoma near Cherokee territory, and in a parking lot, a desperate and frightened woman hands Taylor a Cherokee toddler and leaves. Taylor and the child, named Turtle, keep moving out west and try to find somewhere to put down roots and grow. British Fantasy Award (1988)
