About This Item

Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1960. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First Edition, First Printing, with 1960 on the title page. The jacket is not priced, as there was some sort of tape or sticker to the top edge of the front flap that was pulled up, removing a strip of surface where the price could be. In Near Fine condition, in a Very Good dust jacket. Light foxing or offsetting to end sheets. Previous owner name on front free end paper. Cloth is clean and sharp. The dust jacket has a few short edge tears, light chipping, light soiling, light wear at folds and light rubbing. A lovely copy in a nice dust jacket.

Synopsis

A lonely toy bear on an otherwise empty shop shelf on Christmas Eve in 1956 first captured the attention of Michael Bond. Enamored, the BBC employee brought the stuffed bear home to his wife. They named the bear Paddington after the station near their home in London, and thus inspired, Bond began to write a few cute stories about the bear's adventures starting with A Bear Called Paddington in October 1958. The friendly bear with his old hat, battered suitcase, duffel coat and love of marmalade—has become a classic character from British children's literature and has become popular with American audiences as well.
