Philadelpha: George Barrie's Sons. Good with no dust jacket. 1897. Hardcover. An American reprint edition of Balzac's novel, one of many in the Scenes of Private Life portion of his monumental series of interlinked novels, "The Human Comedy" ("La Comédie humaine"). Rendered into English from the French by George Burnham Ives. Volume X only in this special definitive edition, number 7 of 300 sets printed. Though title page mentions "illustrated with etchings" only one can be found, at frontis. --- In full navy cloth-covered boards with titling on paper spine label; top edge gilt. Volume lacks a dust jacket. --- The spine label is sunned, making it unreadable; with tear to cloth at spine and with crease to front cover corner, some light dampstains to many leaves and inkings to front free endpaper, otherwise a sound copy. NOTE: Many pages unopened.; Octavo (8 to 9 in. tall); 525 pages .
