About This Item

New Haven: Yale University Press, 1977. First edition. Near fine in very good plus dust jacket.. Signed first printing of Olga Broumas's first collection of poetry, a celebration of lesbian eroticism that blazed a trail for future poets - in the scarce hardcover issue. BEGINNING WITH O, Olga Broumas's first book of poetry, earned the Yale Younger Poets Award in 1977. The Poetry Foundation notes that Broumas's work "attempts to create a lesbian language attentive to the experiences of women"; this collection swirls with Sapphic eroticism, into which Broumas weaves her personal encounters and experiences alongside broader reflections on life and womanhood. BEGINNING WITH O was simultaneously issued in paperback and hardcover, though the hardcover is significantly scarcer, especially signed. 8'' x 5''. Original green cloth boards. Original unclipped ($6.95) pictorial dust jacket. 74 pages. Signed by Broumas, "With flowers," to title page. Jacket with mild soil, faint circular staining to front. Textblock with scattered foxing. Sharp and clean.
