First Edition. The first-hand account by Navy pilot Thornton, the first helicopter pilot to be shot down behind enemy lines in the Korean War and his subsequent freedom three years later after experiencing cruelty, including brainwashing. Signed presentation from Thornton on the verso of the half-title page: "To Ann, Any friend of Adam is a friend of mine. And it is friendship that got me thru & home. Regards, Capt. John W. Thornton." Also inscribed by his son: "To Ann- thanks for your interest in this and hope you enjoy it. Best regards, Jay Thornton." Copies signed by both the father and son are uncommon! Laid in is a flyer for the book signing and a clipped article on Thornton from a Pensacola newspaper. Near fine; some rubbing & few short tears d/j. $175.00.
