London: Robert Hale, (1967.) 1st edition. Signed twice by the author and also signed by the 9th Earl of Albemarle, a Keppel descendant who wrote the foreword and to whom this book is dedicated. A biography of one of Britain's greatest Naval commanders of the Victorian age. Includes accounts of Borneo pirates, the suppression of West African slave trade, the China Opium Wars, the Crimean War, and voyages to the Indian archipelago. Illustrated by maps, portraits, reproductions, and a genealogical chart. Signed by the author as Vivian Stuart on the title page. Also signed and inscribed with her married name, Vivian Mann, on the front endpaper. Additionally signed "Albemarle" on the half-title by the 9th Earl [Walter Keppel, 1882-1979.] 272 pp. 8vo hardcover in dust jacket. VG/VG. Light stains to rear corners of the jacket, but no tears or other important flaws. Clean and securely bound. Uncommon signed by both the author and Albemarle.

Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout, binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Mild crushing to spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Unclipped jacket has moderate edge-wear with chips, tears and creasing. Tape repaired.
