Beautifully and profusely illustrated with drawings by William Martin Johnson and photogravures throughout. 8vo, very handsomely bound in full crushed honey morocco by Bayntun of Bath, England. This fine binding is decorated beautifully with double gilt fillet rules to the covers, the spine panels with raised bands gilt tooled, the compartments of the spine with sophisticated panel designs in gilt, two compartments lettered in gilt, the turnovers with gilt rolled tooling, fine marbled endleaves, all edges gilt. 438, 439-854. An especially handsome and well preserved copy of this classic work. The bindings remain in beautiful condition, a very fine copy withal. FIRST EDITION OF THIS BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED AND HANDSOMELY BOUND PRINTING OF A CLASSIC AND TIMELESS WORK. Each page is filled with delicate (and archaeologically accurate) marginal decorations and drawings. There are also a number of full-page gravures which are presented to accompany the text.
