A collection of four plays by Russia's Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) in a Modern Library hardcover edition. Chekhov is considered one of the greatest of the Russian writers, excelling at short stories as well as drama. The plays are translated from the Russian by Stark Young, who has also supplied an introduction. --- In Toledano spine 11 / rust cloth / ML hex torchbearer device blindstamped to front cover / gilt-stamped spine titling & torchbearer / tan Kent endpapers / jacket style l, verso blank. Likely published c.1966 (though 1950 date appears in book). ML #171.2. --- A clean, tightly-bound, bright copy, though with prior owner's signature, and another's rubberstamping to front free endpaper.
