Bethel, Maine, [ca 1915]. 12mo (7.7" x 5.5"), printed pictorial black print on brown cardstock wrappers. 16 pp., numerous b&w illus.,1 4" x 5" map. A brochure beckoning visitors to the Bethel Inn with lovely images reflecting an era of elegant retreat in rustic Maine. Engravings signed by "Hope" depict The Three Elms, The Sun Room, The Parlor, A Sleeping Room, a stagecoach arrival, The Log Cottage on Songo Lake, Fuller's Shack, The Elms Cottage, The Willows Cottage and some wintry scenes. The Bethel Inn was on the Grand Trunk Railway, sixty-nine miles north of Portland, Me. The Inn began in 1913 as a hotel for Dr. John George Gehring's nervous disorder patients, thrived as a resort in the 1940's and 50's, was supported by philanthropist William Bingham II until 1979, and has currently expanded under new ownership.Not in OCLC.CONDITION: Very good, slight wear and soiling on covers, pristine interior, very appealing copy.
